A credible and successful transition is one that is financed. Because it costs money, at least to invest, and we need to be clear about who pays for what, and who will pay for what. In particular, we need to be clear about what is expected of public budgets, especially those of governments. Debating and planning the financing of the transition is a necessity in France, where things are finally moving, and I4CE has been contributing to this for several years. It is also a necessity in developing countries, which have the particularity of also relying on international development aid, and, in fact, necessary in every country in the world.
I4CE provides tools and data on carbon taxes and markets around the world and analyses how governments are using the revenues from these schemes, which now amount to $100 billion a year.
