CREDIBLE
Building momentum and trust to achieve credible soil carbon farming in the European Union
Context
Europe relies on carbon farming practices to minimise the climate impact of the land sector. Carbon farming encompasses agricultural, forestry and peatland management practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions or store carbon in soils and biomass.
As a European certification framework for carbon farming is being developed, there is a need to share experiences and harmonise measurement and monitoring practices.
Objectives
The Credible project is a “network of networks” designed to coordinate discussions on the challenges of disseminating carbon farming practices. Credible provides a forum for sharing knowledge and experience, upscaling solutions and enabling the multiplication of climate actions across the EU.
Eleven technical Focus Groups made up of European experts exchange information and provide recommendations to the European institutions in particular for the implementation of the European carbon certification framework.
Every year, Credible organises a European carbon farming summit. High-level debates are held to shape up robust carbon farming markets and policies.
I4CE is involved alongside AC3A in leading a technical Focus Group on how to link the European certification framework with existing regional, national, and international standards. The aim is to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the different levels of governance and to anticipate potential interaction between overlapping schemes at different levels.
