15 years after the first carbon projects were conducted, regulated and voluntary carbon offsetting needs to be evaluated. Despite being often criticized and subject to controversy for being misunderstood or misused, carbon offsetting mechanisms appear to be essential today in the climate solution toolbox. Whereas its international aspect has allowed us to avoid over one billion tons of CO2 so far, its future could lie in domestic projects, meaning those conducted in the Annex 1 countries.
